about me

i'm josephine

My name is Josephine (she/her) and I am currently pursuing my Master of Counselling degree at City University. I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Women & Gender Studies and English at the University of Alberta before returning to school to study Psychology. My eclectic background includes a variety of people-oriented jobs. I have experience coordinating community and educational events, providing compassionate care to clients over the phone, and working with youth through creation and play.

I am a client-centered therapist who works from an attachment and feminist perspective. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I will meet you with radical acceptance as we navigate life’s complexities together. I recognize that we all have rich histories, intersectional identities, and that we are influenced by the systems we exist in, so I am curious to learn about your unique story. I am here to help you identify internal and relational patterns so you can strengthen your connection with the self and others. I believe that accessing emotion is the key to change, and I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where you can begin to understand, express, and process vulnerable emotions.

My primary therapeutic modalities are Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Narrative Therapy (NT). With me as your counsellor, we can work collaboratively to heal attachment wounds, identify internal and relational patterns, process emotions, and to strengthen your relationships. If you think we might be a good fit, I would love to meet you for a consultation!

Josephine

I value flexibility and creativity

My aim is to ensure that you have the best therapeutic experience possible. I encourage you to provide feedback throughout our relationship, and to let me know when you are feeling stuck. I am open to adapting my approaches, and I am happy to include creativity in our sessions!

Your identity matters

As an intersectional feminist, I value your pronouns and chosen identity. The counselling setting is a safe space for exploration too, so there is no pressure to commit to a label here. I strive to always show up as my authentic self, and I am here to help you connect with yours.

Humour is welcome

I am open to exploring the lighter moments in sessions. I will let you take the lead on the tone that you would like in your sessions, while striving to balance that with honesty, straightforwardness, and compassion when needed.

There are no bad parts or emotions

I believe that all parts of us and emotions serve a purpose, and I am here to meet them without judgment. I am interested in learning where these parts come from, what purpose they serve, and how you feel about them.
