about me

i'm Sophie

Hi! My name is Sophie (she/her). I hold a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology and earned my Master of Counselling from City University of Seattle in 2025. Prior to entering clinical practice, I worked in government policy across areas including Status of Women, Addiction and Mental Health and Continuing Care, which deepened my understanding of the systemic factors that influence individual well-being. As part of my master program, I completed my counselling internship at MacEwan University, where I supported students with a wide range of concerns, and have also worked with children at the Centre for Autism.

At my core, I am a client-centered therapist who offers a warm, non-judgmental space where safety is prioritized and clients are invited to explore your emotions, relationships, and inner experiences at their own pace. My approach is grounded in empathy, compassion, and deep respect for one’s lived experience. I understand how isolating it can feel to carry emotional pain alone, and I strive to ensure that clients feel supported, validated, understood, and empowered.

I mainly work from an attachment lens, focusing on using Emotionally Focused Therapy and also utilizing pieces of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and somatic approaches. These insights inform my compassionate, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach to psychological care and advocacy.

If this approach resonates with you, I would love to connect! Whether we start with a 15-minute consultation or a first session, I would be honoured to support you in your healing journey.

Sophie

I am warm, gentle, and human

I am a naturally easy-to-talk-to person that makes space for both vulnerability and lightness, for depth and laughter. I want you to bring your authentic self, and I strive to do the same. We are both human, and I aim to create a space where our shared humanness is honored and welcomed.

Validation is my superpower

Clients often tell me they value feeling understood and validated in our sessions. With warmth, presence, and curiosity, I work with you to help build a space where being seen and sharing at your own pace can feel safer and more possible.

You know you best

You are an expert in your own life, and you know you best. As such, I value and respect your
own identity, experience and knowledge and use that to guide the therapeutic process.

Emotions are important

Many of us have been taught that our emotions are wrong or bad. Working from an emotionally- focused therapy lens, I believe your feelings matter and hold meaning, and I’ll help you explore them safely, while grounding yourself and without judgment.
